On a recent trip to visit our daughter, who is studying abroad in Cyprus, we had the chance to explore the island she’s called home for the past three months. On our way back, we spent a few days in Kefalonia, Greece!
TravelVita was once again a daily staple throughout the trip—before, during, and after—to keep us healthy, energized, relaxed, and free from tummy troubles. I was especially concerned about jet lag on this journey because of a plane change in Munich en route to Larnaca, Cyprus. Our flight from O’Hare landed in Munich at 7 AM local time - which was midnight for us, with a three-hour layover. We then caught a 2.5-hour flight to Larnaca, arriving mid-afternoon. To my surprise, I felt fantastic after a late lunch and a walk around the University of Nicosia campus.
That evening, we enjoyed an incredible traditional meze dinner at Tsipouraki Mezedaki—what a feast! The food just kept coming! I slept very well after so many courses at dinner, accompanied by white wine, and woke up feeling refreshed and eager to explore more.
Highlights in Cyprus included walking to the northern part of Nicosia and crossing over to the Turkish side—definitely worth seeing. Later, we headed to Ayia Napa, a relaxed seaside beach town, where we spent the weekend soaking up the sun and playing in the crystal-clear waters of the sea.
A cultural food tour through the Troodos Mountains was undoubtedly a highlight. Visiting small, charming farms, we sampled cheeses, olives, oils, wines, and fresh vegetables harvested from the land. A walk through the village of Lefkara revitalized us after a delightful meze lunch that left us happy and full.
After another perfect day at the beach, we bid farewell to our daughter and set off for Kefalonia, Greece. Neither my husband nor I had ever been to Greece before, and since we only had four full days, we chose to focus on one island—Kefalonia—knowing we'll return someday to explore more of the beautiful Greek islands. Our stay at an adults-only resort on Lourdas Beach was spectacular! We balanced exercise, exploration, and relaxation beautifully. Along the shoreline, we found several cozy mom-and-pop restaurants serving fresh seafood and authentic Greek dishes, which added to the charm.
A special highlight was discovering Lorraine’s Restaurant at Lorraine’s Magic Hill during its soft opening night. What a treat! Lorraine herself greeted us warmly. The original restaurant was founded in 1999 by Panagis Fragiskatos and his wife Lorraine. In 2024, they decided to evolve the business—adding boutique suites on the upper floors, set to open in 2026, while continuing their authentic, simple-ingredient cuisine on the lower floor.
Meeting Lorraine and her daughters was a genuine pleasure, and we were honored to be the first guests to sample their new menu!
Other Kefalonia highlights included visiting Myrthos Beach, the picturesque village of Assos, the De Bosset pedestrian bridge in Argostoli, a vineyard and wine tour, hiking and relaxing at Koutsoupia Beach, and enjoying lunch in the village of Sami. Our accommodations at F Zeen were incredible, offering a peaceful, serene setting.
We were sad to leave Kefalonia but made a stop in Athens for one night before heading back to the States. Once again, TravelVita came through—it saved the day! During our 10+ hour flight, I was surrounded by what seemed like every sick person on the plane. Coughs and sneezes from all directions tested my immune system, but I’m thrilled to report that, thanks to TravelVita, I experienced no coughs, sneezes, or tummy troubles during the trip!
